Ms. Thompson's research focuses on examining how Civil War soldiers managed and coped with their wartime experiences. Her master's thesis was on Union soldiers who committed suicide during the war years, the most extreme reaction. Her current research looks at a wider range of reactions to combat stress and tries to combine historical information with pschychological theory. Other interests include: historical memory/commemoration/monuments, and the American Revolution
