    Position overview
    Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table(s) for the current salary scale(s) for this position: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2023-24/july-2023-acad-salary-scales/t15.pdf. A reasonable full-time salary range for this position is $66,259-$86,453.

    Percent time: Positions may range from 11% to 100% time for one semester or one summer session

    Anticipated start: Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester.)

    Review timeline: The Department reviews applications for fall teaching in March and April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November, and for the summer in March (if applicable). Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed (including hiring for Summer Sessions).

    Position duration: Appointments may be renewable based on the program's need, funding, and performance. Please note: The existence of a pool does not guarantee that a position will be available.

    Position description

    The Department of French at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks a pool of non-tenure-track qualified candidates for possible consideration as temporary instructors to teach beginning to advanced level in the area of French language and culture.

    General Duties:
    Responsibilities include teaching lower division beginning to advanced level French courses, curriculum development, and collaborating with other language faculty. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, and preparing course materials.

    For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the position's start date. The Department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

    Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
    Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program.

    Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
    Advanced degree is required by the start date. College-level teaching for at least three years by start date.

    Preferred qualifications
    PhD (or equivalent international degree) and relevant college-level teaching experience in French. Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, or a relevant field; native or near-native ability in French and English by the time of application.

    Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching for at least three years by start date.
