JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Humanities and Arts Department invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in African American and African Diaspora History for the 2024-2025 academic year, beginning in August 2024. We especially invite scholars working on the United States and the Americas, in any period, deploying transregional, international, comparative, and/or global perspectives and methods. We are particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated record of teaching who can contribute to the department's thematic areas of focus in Africana Studies; gender, sexuality, and women's studies; and/or histories of science, technology, and medicine.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching 6 courses and 2 capstone inquiry seminars in History and International and Global Studies.



Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in History, American Studies, or African American Studies is preferred; terminal degree in another relevant fields considered.
  • Candidates should have earned their PhD by August 15.
  • A track record of successful classroom teaching at the university level.
  • The ability to work creatively and collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students of various experience levels.

We will ask for letters of reference, a scholarly writing sample, and teaching portfolio for short-listed candidates only.

Application review will begin on March 15, 2024, and continue until filled. We anticipate concluding this search by May 15, 2024. The university is not able to offer visa support for this position.
