Working/Functional Title Audrey and John Leslie Endowed Chair-Ast/Asc Prof.
Position Summary The Department of English at MSU invites applications for the Audrey and John Leslie Endowed Chair in North American Indian Literary Studies with a focus on any genre of Creative Writing, including poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and cross-genre practices. The express purpose of the Audrey and John Leslie Endowment in Literary Studies is to promote the transformative potential of literature, and the English Department is particularly interested in candidates whose creative practice, scholarship, and/or editing highlights the political and cultural work that literature accomplishes.
The successful candidate will have a promising record of creative production in North American Indian literatures and a history of working in or with tribal communities. We welcome candidates interested in any of the following areas: North American Indian literary studies, heritage language revitalization, translation studies, environmental and ecocritical studies, social justice studies, popular culture, gender studies, graphic literature, digital humanities, and film studies.

Required Degree Doctorate
Minimum Requirements Rank is open to Assistant or Associate Professors. Successful applicants must have earned either an MFA or PhD, or a combination of an MA and evidence of high caliber, creative publications equivalent to that evidenced by the MFA or PhD, along with a substantial record of teaching experience in higher education and/or in Indigenous communities. Salary is competitive, commensurate with rank and experience, and the Endowed Chair position is enriched by research and programming funds.

- current curriculum vitae; a writing sample of approximately 25-30 pages;
- the names and email addresses of 3 referees for Assistant Professor rank and names and email addresses of 4 referees for Associate Professor rank
- and a statement on leading and teaching in diverse pedagogical, communal, and institutional environments. This statement should also include evidence of a demonstrated record of active engagement with North American Indian tribal communities.
