Key Performance Area
The role involves delivering engaging lectures in broadcast news writing, reporting and production, producing live and long-form radio programmes, professional podcasts, radio and television documentaries, pre-recorded and live studio television productions, radio and television post-production, outside single and multi-camera television broadcast productions, writing scripts for both radio and television and designing and preparing graphics for television productions. The individual will be responsible for teaching production processes in professional radio and television, using professional postproduction software such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and AVID. They will be expected to facilitate the field and studio production of both radio and television programmes. Additional responsibilities include ensuring all the resources required for practical news work are available by advising the Department on what is needed. The incumbent will also be expected to supervise media production research projects in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Job Requirements
A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism, Radio Production, Film and Television Production or a master’s degree in a related area with at least four (4) years of lecturing and/or industrial experience and/or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience. Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). Competence to teach at least three (3) of the following courses: Broadcast Journalism, Audio-Visual Media, Radio Production, Television Production, Documentary Production, Scriptwriting, Postproduction Practice and Graphic Design. Competence in operating professional audio broadcast equipment, professional electronic newsgathering, studio and electronic field production cameras, including DSLR cameras, setting up and operating a full radio production studio and podcasting studio. Competence in establishing professional networks and maintaining links with the industry, as well as experience in developing undergraduate programmes. Competence in online teaching, learning and assessments would be a recommendation. A credible record of lecturing, peer-reviewed publications, community engagement, supervision of students (research) undergraduate level, as well as a relevant Doctorate will be an advantage.
