Lecturer Pool - Composition 2019-20 - College Writing Programs
The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the College Writing Programs should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 17% to 100% time during the academic year, while summer appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis.
Position titles: Lecturer, Lecturer in Summer Sessions.
: Successful applicants will teach in CWP's Reading and Composition sequence or other CWP courses in writing, reading, and oral communication. They will have complete responsibility for classes to include teaching in a classroom environment, meeting with students during scheduled weekly office hours and by appointment, and grading student work.
(at time of application): Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at the time of application.
(by start date): Completion of advanced degree and two years of experience teaching university-level composition are required by the start date.
Foreign applicants must also have permission to work in the U.S. by start date.
: A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree in one of the following fields by the start date of the position:
- composition studies
- rhetoric and composition
- digital rhetoric
- second-language writing/ESL/applied linguistics
Three years or more of experience teaching university-level composition.
Evidence of clear writing as presented in application materials.
: $54,378-$94,233 annual rate during academic year; by agreement in Summer Sessions.
UC lecturers are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council - American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement of the UC-AFT.

Applications are typically reviewed in April and May for fall course needs, in September and October for spring course needs, and February and March for summer course needs. The pool will close June 30, 2020; applicants wishing to remain in the pool after that time will need to submit their applications anew.
