The Department of Media & Creative Industries seeks to make an appointment to an Assistant Professor in Art History with experience in History of Art/Museum Studies/Curatorial Studies. The role holder will be a member of The College of Humanities & Social Sciences. They will be a recognized authority in their field, developing and maintaining a high-profile external profile and will become a leading member of a dynamic, cutting-edge research culture, having access to the excellent research facilities which UAEU offers. They will have a vital role to play in the development and achievement of CHSS within the context of the strategic goals of UAEU, leading research and scholarship in their field. They will be expected to lead on advanced, internationally excellent research in Art History/ Museum Studies/Curatorial Studies securing high impact research funding, to teach and to supervise at the undergraduate level, contribute to admissions, examining and assessment, and to contribute fully to academic administration in both the Department and the CHSS College.
A PhD in Art History and related fields such as Museum Studies or Curatorial Studies. Individuals should demonstrate consistent scholarly/creative activity, receiving national/international recognition in one or more of the abovementioned areas.
Applicants should have expertise in the following:
• Knowledge in world art history, from antiquity to modernity.
• Strong bases in Islamic/Middle Eastern studies.
• Experience in teaching critical writing for art, along with necessary methodologies.
• Liaison to create research opportunities (i.e., symposia, events) for the department.
• Curatorship skills and the ability to organize and oversee locally based exhibitions. Strong administrative skills and collaborative style are needed.
Candidates should be up to date with art history research and museum trends, and demonstrated ability to organize and curate artists and students’ exhibition is preferred. University-level teaching experience is expected.
