The Department of Romance Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time Spanish Assistant Teaching Professor to begin September 1, 2026, with the possibility of renewal.

 

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 courses annually (3 in Fall and 3 in Spring) in Spanish language and culture. Language instruction courses will be at the elementary and intermediate level; courses on cultural studies may be taught in Spanish or in English.
  • Contribute to curriculum-building activities.
  • Serve as pre-major and major advisor.
  • Serve on two committees.

Qualifications

·     M.A. required; Ph.D. (or A.B.D. status) in Spanish or related field preferred

·     Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English

·     Demonstrated excellence in designing and delivering Spanish language and culture courses at the college level in the United States, with a particular interest in candidates enthusiastic about teaching elementary and intermediate Spanish

·     Experience developing and/or implementing project-based and/or task-based curricula preferred

·     Evidence of designing curricula that address issues of equity and justice with a focus on marginalized communities

·     Strong organizational and communication skills

·     Exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering supportive, collaborative, and inclusive relationships with colleagues and students

·     Demonstrated commitment to active engagement in departmental life and student activities, including event organizing, support for extracurricular initiatives, and mentorship

Applications will be accepted until October 13, 2025.

Candidates should submit a letter of application, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, and student evaluations for three recently taught Spanish language courses. Additionally, three confidential letters of reference should be uploaded directly by the recommenders. Candidates who have designed their own courses are encouraged to submit sample syllabi.
