The Judaic Studies Program at Tufts University announces a part-time, two-semester position in Talmud and Rabbinics, beginning in September 2025. The teaching responsibility will be for one course in the Fall semester, Introduction to Talmud, taught in English, and one course in the Spring semester, which brings to bear interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives on rabbinic literature, e.g., literary, gender, or ritual theory or cultural studies. Hours for the fall semester are presently Thursdays 9:00-11:30 AM.  Hours are negotiable for subsequent semesters. Courses may also run at the 100-level with additional readings and coursework in Hebrew. Possibility of renewal.

 

Qualifications

Requirements: ABD or PhD in hand; familiarity with the Jewish reception of the Talmud, critical-scholarly methods, and interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives; appropriate training in Hebrew and Aramaic, as well as spoken Hebrew, and a record of excellence in teaching.
