The Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University is seeking a part-time Lecturer in American Sign Language for Fall 2023 to teach two sections of CSHD 125, American Sign Language II. This is a continuation of an elementary course in American Sign Language offered at Tufts University. Through class participation, Deaf and Deaf Blind community experiences, guest speakers, and presentations, students extend their signing skills. These classes are scheduled to be taught Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:45 and 6:00-7:15 pm.
The mission of the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development is to enhance the lives of children and families in diverse communities and contexts using collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches in ways that reflect the integration of research and practice - understood in the context of culture and community. The department has undergraduate and graduate programs in several areas of developmental science and applied human development. Our teaching also serves students in other Tufts departments and schools (e.g., Psychology, Computer Science, Community Health, Urban & Environmental Policy and Planning). Qualifications
Expertise in American Sign Language required. Master’s degree in the field of college-level teaching ASL or a related field. Prior teaching experience as an instructor in higher education. ASLTA certification is preferred. Experience with ASL True+Way ASL (TWA) curriculum is a plus.
