    Job Description


    The Department of English at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Medical Humanities or Medical Rhetoric. This 10-month appointment begins July 2024. We are open to applicants from a wide array of approaches and backgrounds related to medical humanities or medical rhetoric, including but not limited to health justice; narrative medicine; discourses of public health; rhetoric; disability studies; racial justice; and/or feminist, queer, and trans health.


    This position affords researchers the unique opportunity to engage at the intersection of an upcoming institutional merger between Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School as well as larger regional efforts to focus on health equity for underserved residents of the area. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, partner on interdisciplinary grants, and to participate in or launch collaborative, community-based research. This position carries a 3/2 teaching load.

    Minimum Qualifications - Education or training


    Applicants must have completed all Ph.D. requirements in English, Rhetoric, Medical/Health Humanities, or a closely related field by July 24, 2024.
