Ms. Mayle's scholarly interests are nineteenth century British history and women’s and gender history. Her research focuses on British women’s involvement in philanthropy, particularly urban reform and abolitionism in Yorkshire. She is especially interested in how these projects enable women to engage in the community and refute the separate spheres model, as well as the influence of this work upon later women’s suffrage movements
