Expertise: Professor Lu specializes in East Asian history and gender studies. Dr. Lu's research focuses on the changing conceptualization of masculinity and male beauty standards. His dissertation titled "Appearance Politics, Physiognomy, and Leadership Image: Building Political Legitimacy in Late Imperial and Modern China" explores the role that physical appearance played in Chinese political culture. Professor Lu teaches classes on Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and global histories, and in the history of beauty and fashion.
