I am a historian of international political economy in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and my work focuses on the United States, the Middle East, and South Asia. My general concern is to make sense of large-scale political and economic change, without ignoring the insights that social and cultural historians have taught us about the significance of everyday conflicts over race, class, and gender in shaping our world.
