My scholarly interests are in the cultural politics of girlhood, sexuality, and race in the Postwar United States. My current project, Girls on the Front Line: Gender and the Battle to Desegregate Public Schools in the United States, 1945-1968, considers the role of girls in lawsuits prior to Brown v. Board of Education, and who were desegregation “firsts” at formerly all white schools in the late nineteen fifties and early nineteen sixties.
