Qualitative studies of acquired communication disorders, particularly using conversation analysis; clinical interactions involving speech pathologists and other health professionals; conversation partner training; measurement in speech pathology practice; and conversation analysis more generally, with particular interests in response tokens, agreement, and turn construction. He is currently supervising students studying interactions in aphasia groups, interactions involving people with TBI and their familiar communication partners, and interactions in language teaching classrooms
