My current research focuses on the French-American artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) to argue that literature functions both as an inspiration and aspiration in her work. I am working on a second book project tentatively entitledLouise Bourgeois: The Artist as Writer. Using archival research, I work on a corpus of texts, archival documents and artworks to examine Louise Bourgeois through the scope of literary studies, bringing a new perspective on a major figure of 20th- and 21st-century art. This study also interrogates current critical approaches to artists' writings and proposes a new evaluative framework that takes into account their inherent interdisciplinary nature. Another concern is Bourgeois’s simultaneous use of French and English, and the aesthetic and theoretical implications of her bilingual writing.
