Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position | The Department of English at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for Associate Director of the University Writing Center. The applicant should hold a M.A. in English and/or Rhetoric and Composition or related degree. The candidate will work closely with the Director of the University Writing Center (UWC) contributing positively to the UWC’s day-to-day operations and develop long-term plans for growth of its overall learning environment. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The University Writing Center is housed in the Department of English and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members. CAHSS houses the Departments of English, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, Political Science and Criminal Justice, and Visual and Performing Arts. The CAHSS Dean’s Office has administrative oversight/responsibility for the six academic units and affiliated programs of the College, as well as for its faculty & staff. With an award-winning faculty, intensive research programs, and community-focused initiatives, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is the nation’s largest historically black university with an enrollment of more than 12,500 students. NC A&T is an 1890 land-grant, doctoral higher research institution and one of 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System. NC A&T has ranked third in the University of North Carolina System in sponsored research funding for more than a decade. The university is a leading producer of change agents and global leaders for the careers of today and tomorrow in disciplines of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business, and the arts and humanities. Minimum Requirements | M.A. or higher in English and/or Rhetoric and Composition or related degree. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Experience teaching English writing courses or in a writing lab/learning center preferred. Proficiency in English grammar, composition, and style along with a sound knowledge of critical analysis, writing methods and techniques of planning, writing and editing is expected. |
