    Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. The current full-time salary range for this position is $66,259-$109,516.

    Percent time: Appointments may be part-time and may range between 33% to 100%.

    Anticipated start: August 2023, January 2024, and/or May 2024

    Position description

    The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers and lecturers in lieu of GSI's to teach Linguistics courses should an opening arise. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bCourses (Canvas) site.

    Areas of particular current interest are:
    • Introduction to Linguistics
    • Semantics
    • Sociolinguistics

    Instructors of Record duties include teaching, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), developing exams and/or quizzes, supervising GSIs, and maintaining a course website.

    Lecturer in-lieu-of-GSI's duties entail leading discussion sections, field trips, labs, or instruction of prescribed course content, under the active direction and supervision of the instructor of record who has final responsibility for the course's entire instruction. Other course support duties may include, but are not limited to, holding office hours, grading, and participation in the development of quizzes.

    The department is interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, and service.     Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
    Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of application.

    Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
    Advanced degree by start date.

    Preferred qualifications
    PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Linguistics and demonstrated excellence in teaching courses at the college level. Prior experience teaching courses on these topics.
