    Job Description Summary
    The School of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University seeks candidates for an instructor position in Public Speaking in Communication beginning August 16, 2025. The position is a one- year, non-tenure eligible position with the possibility of renewal (total not to exceed five years) based upon continued need for the position, job performance and availability of funding.

    Responsibilities: This is a teaching-intensive position in the undergraduate Communication Public Speaking program. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate is to teach COMM 1000 Public Speaking (the basic speech course) during the fall and spring semesters. The position requires teaching four in-person, on-campus Public Speaking courses per semester. The successful candidate will also work with the basic course director to train and mentor graduate students who teach COMM 1000.

    The full-time, nine-month appointment runs from mid-August to mid-May. Supplemental support for summer instruction may be possible depending on need and availability of funding. Responsibilities also include service to the School.

     

    Minimum Qualifications
    A master’s degree by time of appointment in communication or a comparable degree and evidence of excellent teaching in public speaking courses. The Instructor appointment requires an earned master’s degree by the Aug. 16, 2025, start date. If the candidate fails to complete the degree by the designated date, the offer will be withdrawn.

    The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.


    Desired Qualifications
    In addition to strong, positive teaching evaluations, the candidate should evidence a demonstrated ability to: teach within, and follow the policies and procedures of, a large multi-section public speaking basic course program; engage in proactive communication with the program supervisor/course director; and actively contribute to the program and its initiatives (e.g., flexibility, service, collegiality, etc.).
