    Job Description Summary


    The Department of History at Auburn University seeks applications for a tenure-track appointment in the history of sub-Saharan Africa, period and specialization open.
    The successful candidate will develop upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialty, teach the department’s African History courses and contribute to Auburn’s core curriculum in world history (in-person instruction). A Ph.D. in History or related field is required at the time employment begins; outstanding candidates who are ABD will be considered but completion of the degree is required prior to the start of the appointment on August 16, 2025.

    Minimum Qualifications


    A Ph.D. in History or Africana Studies is required at the time employment begins. Period and specialization within African history are open.

    The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

    Auburn History Department welcomes applications from candidates whose research, teaching, background and/or outreach strengthens the department’s ability to offer a wide range of perspectives to our students at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
