    The Department of Humanities and Communication at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott campus, invites applications for a part-time teaching positions in Business Communications, Technical Writing or Public Speaking to start August 26, 2019.

    The successful candidate may teach up to 6 courses per year (fall, spring, summer) as negotiated with the department chair. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Business Communication Instructor:

    COM 222 is a writing course for business and aviation students. This course is taught face-to-face and focuses on writing common workplace documents, creating an employment package, and understanding business genres. The instructor is responsible for facilitating the class; grading student documents and other assignments; teaching basic writing, revising, and editing processes; and working with the course monitor to develop the class and assess student work. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining his/her Canvas electronic course site.

    Technical Writing Instructor:

    COM 221 is a writing course for engineering, physics, forensic biology, and other STEM students. This course is taught face-to-face and focuses on technical documentation (e.g., lab reports, technical instructions) and technical presentations (e.g., status reports, design briefings). The instructor is responsible for facilitating the class; grading student documents and other assignments; teaching basic writing, revising, and editing processes; and working with the course monitor to develop the class and assess student work. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining his/her Canvas electronic course site.


    Public Speaking Instructor:
    COM 219 is an introductory public speaking course. The instructor is responsible for facilitating the class, grading student speeches and other assignments, teaching basic communication processes, and working with the course monitor to develop the class and assess student work. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining his/her Canvas electronic course site.


    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Writing: M.A. or Ph.D. in composition studies, rhetoric, writing or a closely related field in hand at the start of the appointment. For Public Speaking: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Speech Communication or Communication Studies, or a related field.
    • Evidence of successful teaching.

    • The ability to use classroom technology effectively in teaching and learning.
