The Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering & Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a three year term Chair in Communication Pedagogy. The ideal candidate will be an experienced faculty member (PhD) who has previously developed relevant writing and communication programs for undergraduate students (e.g. Writing in the Disciplines). S/he will design, start up, resource, and manage a new Communication Lab for the recently endowed Faculty. The Communication Lab will offer short courses, writing clinics, resume reviews, data visualization coaching, and other services to students. S/he will also work closely with faculty members and students to develop appropriate teaching materials for communication enriched courses in the curriculum and recruit, train and supervise teaching fellows and part-time instructors. The Chair will report to the MSFEA Dean.

With a total enrollment of approximately 2,800 undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, MSFEA is comprised of approximately 100 professorial rank and 60 part-time faculty members, and houses six departments: Architecture and Design, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Mechanical Engineering, and graduate programs in Biomedical Engineering and Urban Design, Planning, and Policy. Our undergraduate engineering degree programs are ABET accredited.

Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. A teaching-centered research university, AUB has approximately 700 full-time faculty members and 8,000 students from more than 60 countries. It offers programs leading to the bachelor’s, master’s, MD, and PhD degrees. The student body is 50 percent female, and the language of instruction is English. Set on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the University has a green campus dotted with historic and contemporary buildings, a state of the art athletics complex, and is located in the heart of the vibrant city of Beirut which offers numerous venues for the arts, entertainment, and community engagement. It is also located less than one hour’s drive from the ski slopes of Mt. Lebanon, and a wide variety of hiking, caving, and cycling terrain.
