Department Summary
The Department of English strives to promote a greater understanding of literature and culture; to add to literary tradition by fostering new works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction; to innovate in writing instruction; and to investigate the history of persuasive writing. Ours is diverse faculty, committed to teaching and mentoring students from UNT’s rapidly changing student demographic.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing, Poetry. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load, including introductory poetry workshops and undergraduate courses in the First Year Writing program. Some mentoring at the graduate level is also expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Significant publication record in poetry, including a book. M.F.A. or Ph.D. in creative writing, and teaching experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate should be prepared to teach first year writing, upper-division poetry workshops and advise graduate students. Preparedness to teach at a Minority-Serving and Hispanic-Serving institution, and evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.
