German Lecturer Pool

The Department of German seeks a pool of parttime, renewable, nontenure track lecturers to teach German language courses (of various levels) and possibly upper-level courses in such areas as translation and multilingualism, German literature, and contemporary Germany (e.g. migration, nationalism, media, and popular culture). In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.
The number of positions varies from semester to semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. The position will remain open until filled to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants. Typically, the Department reviews applications for summer and fall teaching in April, and applications for spring teaching in October and November. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester).
Basic Qualifications (by the time of application): Completed master's degree (or equivalent international degree) is required to teach both language and literature/culture courses.
Native or near-native fluency in German and English.
Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S.
For language instruction: Demonstrated excellence in teaching, familiarity with college-level language programs, and relevant teaching experience using current language-teaching methodologies.
For literature/culture instruction: Demonstrated expertise of German language literature and culture with emphasis in translation, migration and interaction, media and popular culture.
For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment). The Program is unable to provide a visa/work permit.
Salary is based on an annual full-time salary rate of a minimum of $54,738.00 for positions ranging from 33% to 100% each semester. Actual salary will be commensurate with college level teaching experience.
