Summary:

The Utah Valley University Department of English and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track position in Rhetoric and Composition to begin August 2019.

A successful candidate for the position will teach first-year composition, multicultural rhetorics, rhetorical theory, and other advanced writing courses, which may include classes satisfying the university's Global/Intercultural requirement. G/I classes at UVU foster greater understanding of the diversity in our local and campus communities, as well as larger state and global contexts. The candidate will join a thriving cohort of Writing Studies and Technical Communication colleagues in support of the department's Writing Studies Emphasis, Minor in Writing Studies, and certificate in Editing and Document Design. Standard teaching load is 4/4, with opportunities for reassigned time for Writing Program Administration or other administrative work.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in theories and teaching of multicultural, disability, and feminist rhetorics, as well as rhetorical theory. We seek a colleague who expects to serve on department and university committees to work toward promoting an advanced writing requirement across academic departments at UVU. Preferred secondary interests include new media studies, gender studies, posthuman studies, and digital pedagogy/composition.

A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field is required at time of appointment.

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field is required at time of appointment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a committee at the departmental, college, and university levels.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.

Physical Requirements:

Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment. Requires regular sitting and standing. Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to communicate effectively. Requires large classroom, small group and interpersonal interactions with students, faculty, and members of the campus.
