Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:

Utah Valley University located in Orem, Utah seeks an Assistant Professor - Philosophy. AOS: Asian Philosophy AOC: Open; though department has needs in Latinx Philosophy, Africana Philosophy, Indigenous Philosophy, Race Theory, and Ethics. Duties include: Teach 4 courses per semester (8 per year) in the undergraduate Philosophy program at the upper and lower division, including, but not limited to, upper-division courses in Eastern Philosophy, Introduction to Eastern Philosophy, Ethics and Values, and Introduction to Philosophy. Candidates must be committed to inclusion and openness to diverse perspectives. The successful candidate will teach Eastern philosophy from a diversity of cultural and theoretical perspectives. Instruction can include internet and evening courses. Candidates must have experience teaching in a college/university setting. Candidate must demonstrate scholarly research consistent with disciplinary specialization and facility with original language of research interest. Candidate will engage in department and university service, including curriculum development. The successful candidate joins a vibrant and collegial department. Salary and benefits competitive.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. required in a related field to the coursework being taught. ABD with strong evidence of imminent completion will be considered. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current instruction theory, methods, strategies, and techniques.

Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation techniques.

Skills in teaching, mentoring, research productivity, and commitment to professional development.

Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques.

Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary collegiate team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements typical of teaching: extended use of keyboard for computer; extended time sitting, standing, and walking.
