Assistant Professor Technical Communication
The Humanities, Social Science, and Communication (HSC) Department at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has an Assistant Professor faculty position in the field of Technical Communication. The HSC department offers all MSOE students a compulsory Freshman Studies series throughout the students’ first year, which consists of three courses. Together, the courses provide first year students with a foundation in composition, literature, research, technical composition, and presentation skills, while introducing the students to civic engagement in a small class environment. The new faculty member will teach this Freshman Studies series and work with first year students. A Ph.D. in technical communication or related field is required. The position will be available beginning in fall of 2019. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Experience teaching college students, especially first year students
- Experience working in a first-year experience program
- Experience incorporating high-impact learning strategies in the classroom
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with students and faculty from other departments
The HSC Department has offices in MSOE’s Grohman Museum, home of the Man at Work collection of industrial art. We are home to a cutting-edge a user experience and communication design program and encourage faculty to engage in experiential and high-impact learning strategies that benefit our students.
