Lecturer Pool - East Asian Literature & Culture - East Asian Languages & Cultures

The department of East Asian Languages & Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley, invites application of a pool of qualified temporary non-tenure track lecturer positions to teach courses in pre-modern and modern literature of China, Japan, Korea, Tibet, and Mongolia, comparative literature of East Asia, Western/ East Asian comparative literature, and East Asian culture, gender, diversity, and Reading and Composition for Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021. All courses are taught in English and all materials will be in English translation.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): teaching, holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, maintaining a course website and compiling teaching materials and interacting with students via email and/bCourses.

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application): PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program

Additional Qualifications (required by start date): Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree). For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant college-level teaching experience preferred. English fluency.

Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions may vary each teaching term, depending upon the needs of the Department. Positions may range from 33% to 100% time and in some terms may be zero.

Salary is commensurate with education and years of college-level teaching experience. The starting minimum full-time equivalent salary is $56,381 in accordance with the current Unit 18 lecturer salary scale and its provisions. UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
