CLASS department is looking for a tenure track Assistant Professor to teach classes in the undergraduate Technical Communication program and the undergraduate English sequence, particularly technical writing. There are also regular opportunities to teach classes in the candidate’s specialty areas. Especially desirable are classes in areas which combine science and technology with human impact. The standard teaching load is a 3/3, and there are additional research and service expectations. The position begins January 2023.
A PhD in English, Communication, or related field by December 31, 2022 with experience teaching college-level courses. A background teaching technical writing, applied research methods, and media-related classes to students in the STEM fields is preferred. There will be additional preference for candidates who can engage with the overall mission of New Mexico Tech and with one of the CLASS department’s major focus areas: technical communication, art and film, user experience research and design, policy and public engagement, digital media, or science, technology, and society. Leadership in curricular and co-curricular student activities will also be considered. Other required qualifications include an ability to conduct and disseminate research appropriate to the discipline and an ability to support student academic success by engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences is a vibrant multidisciplinary department of scholars from Technical Communication, Science & Technology Studies, Psychology, Education, Philosophy, Spanish, History, and Composition Studies.
