The School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry ( MCASI) incorporates a combination of creative, professional and more traditional academic disciplines, and is renowned for its critical and creative research in the domains of media, communication, culture and technology; social justice, human rights, and creative arts.
Home to the longest continuously running writing program in Australia, the School is recognised internationally for its award-winning creative-practice research in writing, performance, fine art, and the screen arts.MCASI is also ranked in the top 150 in the world for the subject of Communications and Media Studies, and in the top 200 in the world for Art and Design in the 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
Our School engages with new technologies in teaching, research and practice in the creative industries, arts and social sciences, and encourages creative and critical engagement with relevant industries.
Your new role
The Head of School role is an outstanding opportunity for a strategic leader to encourage excellence and continuous improvement in learning, teaching, research and innovation within the School.
Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Humanities, you will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with the PVC and Faculty Deans to establish clear operational plans, goals and priorities for the School;
- Using your passion and vision to engage colleagues, students and industry partners in a long-term strategy focussed on outcomes and excellence, aligned with the Faculty and the School;
- Leading staffing functions, including workforce planning, recruitment, and training and development;
- Managing School finances, including preparing the School budget and managing expenditure against targets;
- Establishing and maintaining strong domestic and international connections with relevant government, business, professional bodies and the wider community.
You will bring to the Role
- Strong leadership with the ability to work with others to develop a shared vision of the School’s future.
- The ability to think strategically and translate the University’s strategic goals into local plans and initiatives.
