Department of German Studies
The Department of German Studies at the University of Kansas seeks a full-time Multi-Term Lecturer. The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily lower-level German language courses. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position with an initial appointment of three years.
Teaching – 100%
Teach undergraduate language classes as assigned; at least ten credits per semester in German.
Prepare for and attend all class meetings. Classes should not be canceled.
Fulfil the following duties under close supervision and guidance of the language program coordinator throughout the semester: prepare lesson plans, grade assignments in a timely manner, provide students with feedback and regular information about their progress in the course, and give students clear information about how to improve their performance in the course.
Hold regular office hours for students in the classes taught. A minimum of two posted office hours each week is required.
Maintain standards of excellence in teaching and in the evaluation of student performance.
Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.
Attend teaching-related in-service meetings.
MA in Germanic Languages and Literatures.
Native or near-native ability in German.
At least 3 credit hours of graduate coursework in contemporary methods of teaching German as a Foreign Language as ascertained by transcript or curriculum vitae.
At least 3 months experience teaching undergraduate courses in German.
