The Department of Romance Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a Portuguese Language Coordinator and Part-time Lecturer position to begin September 1, 2025.

Part time lecturer to teach all level of Portuguese language courses and coordinate the Portuguese language program. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching up to five Portuguese language courses annually (three in the Fall, two in the Spring);
  • Coordinating all levels of Portuguese;
  • Overseeing the entire Portuguese language curriculum;
  • Hiring, supervising, and evaluating Portuguese lecturers and teaching assistants;
  • Coordinating and administering placement exams;
  • Advising students;
  • Collaborating with various university offices;
  • Maintaining liaison with Global Education programs;
  • Promoting the program by organizing co-curricular and outreach events.

Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree required in Luso-Brazilian studies, second language acquisition, linguistics, or a related field. PhD preferred.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and English.
  • Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills.
  • Team-management, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Experience in designing and teaching college-level Portuguese language and culture courses in the U.S.
  • Command of instructional technology applied to language learning.
  • Evidence of creative pedagogical practice reflecting knowledge of current methodologies.
  • Evidence of a commitment to designing curricula that address issues of equity and justice with a focus on marginalized communities.
