Lecturer Pool - Department of Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers and lecturers in lieu of GSI's to teach Linguistics courses should an opening arise. Department policy requires instructors to create and maintain a bcourses (Canvas) site.

A link to a list of Linguistics class descriptions can be found here: http://guide.berkeley.edu/courses/linguis/

Instructors of Record duties include teaching, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), developing exams and/or quizzes, supervising GSIs, and maintaining a course website.

Lecturer in-lieu-of-GSI's duties entail leading discussion sections, field trips, labs, or instruction of prescribed course content, under the active direction and supervision of the instructor of record who has final responsibility for the course's entire instruction. Other course support duties may include, but are not limited to, holding office hours, grading, and participation in the development of quizzes.

Please note: The use of a lecturer pool does not guarantee that an open position exists. See the review date specified in AP Recruit to learn whether the Department of Linguistics is currently reviewing applications for a specific position. If there is no future review date specified, your application may not be considered at this time. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by the American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.

The department is interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, and service. The department is also interested in individuals who may have had non-traditional career paths or who may have taken time off for family reasons (e.g., children, disabled, or elderly), or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia (e.g., in professional or industry service).
