Faculty, Tenure Track, Assistant Professor - Communication Generalist

Within UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY, the Communication department is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor. The successful candidate conducts assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses and seminars in a variety of courses in the communication major. The Department welcomes applications from scholars of all methodological orientations and research approaches. We hope for applications from teacher-scholars whose work complements and extends the department. Courses may include communication theory, research methods, introduction to communication, health communication, gender and communication, and interpersonal communication classes (introductory and advanced). Candidates for this position will develop curriculum, independent study activities, and off campus learning such as practicums and internships, as well as engage in community service projects as relevant to their academic specialty. More specifically, responsibilities will include planning, preparing, and following approved course of study with measurable objectives; serving on college/university committees; and engaging in scholarly activities, and /or creative endeavors which contribute to the academic mission of the college and university.
Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited institution ABD considered, with the expectation the candidate will have degree completed by first day of class. Must have a background that will compliment and an extend the current strengths of the department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies (face-to-face and online), and techniques related to communication studies.
Knowledge of teaching through implementation of appropriate pedagogy, clear presentation, and preparation.
Knowledge of classroom instruction, curriculum development, and program assessment.
Knowledge of developing and coordinating undergraduate student programs and activities.
Ability to provide service to the department, college, and university through shared faculty governance, including serving on departmental, college, and university-wide committees.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to present scholarly research at international, national, and regional conferences.
Ability to publish scholarly research in communication and other appropriate journals.
Ability to develop, coordinate, manage and foster teamwork among diverse education and training programs.
Ability to function effectively on a variety of committees and assignments that serve the needs of the University.
Ability to interact personally with students and other faculty members in a congenial and productive manner.
Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited institution. Evidence of ability to teach effectively across the communication curriculum.
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment. Requires regular sitting and standing. Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Must be able to communicate effectively. Requires large classroom, small group and interpersonal interactions with students, faculty, and members of the campus.
