Point Park University
Point Park University seeks an innovative, visionary leader to serve as Dean of the School of Communication beginning spring or summer 2020. The Dean will lead talented faculty and staff who provide exceptional experiential education in nine undergraduate programs and three graduate programs. The Dean will oversee the development and implementation of the School’s vision and strategic plan, while adapting to the changing higher education environment. We seek an individual with a proven record of leadership success who values the teacher-scholar-practitioner faculty model. The Dean will be responsible for raising the profile of the School of Communication, fundraising, developing a strong alumni network, and creating new opportunities and providing support for faculty and students. Most importantly, the Dean must have an unwavering commitment to student learning and student success.
Overseeing full-time and part-time faculty and staff
Fundraising to support the School, its faculty, staff, and students
Developing significant relationships such as partnerships, co-ops, and internships with media and communication entities throughout the region
Creating and maintaining a market and awareness for the School and cultivating and advocating for the School’s vision and strategic plans
Managing the School enrollment
Managing the School budgets and advocating for School resources
Leading the continual review, assessment, and renewal of all academic programs
Participating as a member of the Provost’s senior leadership team and working collaboratively with academic leaders throughout the University
Terminal degree and/or significant and relevant professional experience
Significant senior-level management experience, academic preferred
Record of success and commitment to fundraising
Demonstrable experience promoting diversity and inclusion
Exceptional communication skills
Awareness of current trends and best practices in one or more of the School’s disciplines and in higher education
Strong record of success as a leader
School of Communication
The School of Communication offers a multiplatform B.A. in Journalism that encompasses broadcast reporting, environmental journalism, journalism, and photojournalism, a B.A. in Broadcast Production and Media Management, a B.A. in Multimedia with a concentration in Graphic Design, a B.A. in Public Relations & Advertising, and a B.F.A. in Photography.
The School’s graduate program offers a variety of concentrations, ranging from traditional journalism to unique offerings that include a dual M.A./M.B.A. degree, a documentary concentration, an online media technology M.A., and partnerships with the Schools of Education, Business, and Arts and Sciences to create in-depth reporting and public relations specialties.
The School of Communication partners with the University’s Center for Media Innovation to put media professionals and students together in a variety of academic and professional contexts. Students in the School consistently receive competitive awards and scholarships from regional and national media organizations. In addition, the School’s faculty members serve as advisors for the independent student-run media and professional groups.
