Position: Assistant Professor of Communications

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of Communications is a Full-Time, Tenure-Track faculty position within the Communications Program in the School of Humanities at Penn State Harrisburg.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual who shares our commitment to teaching, research, and service. Areas of expertise sought include various elements of communications and the media: strategic communications, media production, technology in mass

communications, broadcasting, mass communications audience analysis, and sports journalism. The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students, foster robust, collaborative research, and engage in service activities supporting institutional goals.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Communications include teaching, research, and service to the school, college, university, community, and profession.

Teaching:

Teaching responsibilities will include a 9-credit load each fall and spring semester.

Research/Scholarship/Creative Accomplishments:

Candidates are expected to have an active and promising research agenda in their field of expertise.

Tenure-track faculty in the School of Humanities are required to publish articles, book chapters, and/or books with major academic journals and presses, leading to a national reputation at the time of tenure.

Service:

The Assistant Professor of Communications will participate in service activities that reflect a commitment to campus, university, and regional communities as well as national and international academic communities.

Qualifications:

To be considered for the Assistant Professor of Communications, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Education:

PhD in Communications or a closely associated field is required by July of 2025.

Expertise:

The successful candidate will teach in the Bachelor of Arts in Communications (B.A. COMM) and the Master of Arts in Communications (M.A. COMMS) programs. The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in relevant communication theory and will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in writing, media production, content production in digital media environments, and media analytics.
