Assistant Professor of American Literature, Race, and Ethnic Studies

Penn State Harrisburg's School of Humanities is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of American Literature, Race, and Ethnic Studies to start August 2020. The school offers a Bachelor of Humanities in English, among other undergraduate degrees, and graduate degrees in Humanities, Communications, and American Studies. The program seeks candidates with teaching-research areas in American literature. Teaching assignments at Penn State Harrisburg may include introductory literature courses, 200-level courses covering significant American time periods and literary theory, and 400-level courses focusing on genres and special topics, including courses cross-listed with American Studies. Candidates might teach a substantial range of courses, such as graduate writing seminars in Humanities or Communications, first-year composition and discipline-specific writing, and honors courses. Research areas should extend beyond traditional American literature to include fields such as race and ethnicity, contemporary literature, digital humanities, composition/rhetoric, and interdisciplinary areas such as "science and literature" or "work and literature." Candidates should have college teaching experience, a promising research and publication agenda in American literature, and a commitment to university service and public outreach; advising and mentoring experience preferred. Ph.D. in English or a related field with a specialty in American literature required; Ph.D. degree must be completed by the time of application.
