The successful candidate will be a specialist in the Spanish language and Hispanic culture with a promising research program and an innovative pedagogical approach. This faculty member will teach six classes an academic year, primarily Spanish language courses with regular opportunities to teach elective courses within their area of specialization. The candidate will also contribute to an emerging interdisciplinary master’s degree program.
A PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or related field by August 1, 2020, with evidence of scholarly potential, Spanish language fluency, excellence in college-level teaching, and exceptional communication skills. Strong preference will be given to candidates with expertise in topics of diversity across race, gender, and culture. Preference will also be given to candidates who can engage with one of the CLASS department’s major focal areas: technical communication, art and film, user experience research and design, policy and public engagement, or science, technology, and society, and with the overall mission of New Mexico Tech. Leadership in curricular and co-curricular student activities will also be considered.
Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences is a vibrant multidisciplinary department of scholars from Technical Communication, Science & Technology Studies, History, and Composition Studies. In addition to supporting a strong BS program in Technical Communication, department faculty teach general education courses tailored to the needs of the student body and participate in interdisciplinary research efforts.
