Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329 - $74,576

Anticipated start: Positions (if any) typically start at the beginning of the teaching term; e.g., in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester; at the start of the appointed summer session.

Position duration: Usually one semester or one academic year. Appointments may be shorter in duration if only a partial semester is needed. Appointments may be renewable based on the department's needs, funding, and on lecturer performance.

Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at UC Berkeley welcomes applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate courses, should a need arise, in any of the following possible areas:
- Language (Russian, Polish, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Armenian, Hungarian, or Ukrainian; possible other languages)
- Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on Slavic topics, using Slavic literature in translation)
- Slavic Literature and Culture (may include History, Film, Folklore, or other related topics)
Russian Language Coordination, Supervision, and Pedagogy
General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web based course resources.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Completed Master's degree (or equivalent international degree)
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is usually unable to provide a visa/work permit.
Fluency in English language.
If teaching a language, complete fluency in the language being taught.
An advanced degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures or related field may be strongly preferred, depending on duties/classes being taught.
Experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level in the U.S.
If hired to teach R&C, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English.
If hired to teach a language course, professional training in language teaching.
Demonstrated expertise of the needed area/field of duties/teaching.
Potential for successful attraction, advising and mentoring students.
