THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE
DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY
The Department of History of the National University of Singapore is seeking to make a tenure-track appointment, during 2022, at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will have a completed PhD degree in History, and have a strong research agenda rooted in appropriate fields of interest within the wider field of the history of the United States of America. Candidates should have an international profile commensurate with their rank and stage of career. The Department is particularly interested in applicants with research interests and accomplishments in one or more of the following subfields of History: gender; science, technology and society; religion; popular culture; international relations; political history and the history of political economy. Our preference is for a hire with expertise in post 1865 US History. A demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to teaching the general history of the USA, as well as well as more specialized courses in American history and courses that bring history to broader audiences of undergraduates in the College of the Humanities and Sciences is also important. Successful hires are generally accorded, on application, a start-up grant and thereafter have access to research grants. A competitive remuneration package, based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, will be offered.
According to the QS Rankings 2021, the Department of History is ranked 15th among university history departments worldwide, and 1st in Asia. It is one of 15 Departments, a Program, and a Language Centre within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Southeast Asia and East Asia are areas of special strength for the Department, which consists of more than 30 faculty members with research interests in various aspects of Asian, European, and American history, military history, international history, the history of science and technology, religion and history, and business, environmental, and maritime history.
Application dossiers should include a complete list of publications, research interests, and teaching experience, as well as any other relevant information; a covering letter explaining why the position at NUS is of interest; and the names and contact information of four academic referees. Review of applications will begin on December 30, 2021. The search will continue until an appointment is made.
