The University of California Police Department provides a full range of law enforcement services in support of the academic and public service missions of the University of California, serving a diverse community of more than 43,000 students and 14,000 faculty & staff in the vibrant City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the traditional role of a police department, we also carry out a variety of proactive educational, outreach and crime prevention programs. We pride ourselves in a professional and high-quality delivery of service, which we provide with sensitivity to the unique concerns of the University community.
At the Berkeley campus, we employ approximately 62 sworn peace officers, 70 full time civilian employees and 60 part-time students. We offer a wide variety of assignments and a public service experience unlike any other agency.
- Serves as UCPD Berkeley's liaison for Clery Act compliance.
- Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises UC Berkeley's Clery Act compliance policies and procedures within the Police Department that meets Department of Education requirements.
- Works with the Campus Clery Act Coordinator and other Clery Liaison employees on the establishment of Clery Act compliance programs on the main campus, as well as, off campus buildings and properties owned and/or controlled by the institution.
- Collects, analyzes and consolidates data from UCPD police records and the reports from internal and external sources within the scope of the UCPD Clery Liaison duties.
- Provides that data to the Campus Clery official and, as-needed, to other campus sources.
- Serves as a custodian for all Police Department-related Clery Act records.
- Serves as UCPD Berkeley's designated individual to receive CSA reports, completes and publishes campus Timely Warnings as necessary and ensures a campus-wide distribution.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Must have the ability to process a large volume of work while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Possess excellent oral, written and presentation skills and can clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, and can effectively participate in person with individual, small and large group settings, and to be persuasive in difficult situations that may require organization or individual change or compliance with policy and law.
- Able to research, study, and analyze complex documents.
- Able to work with sensitive data and preserve confidentiality.
- Must maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Clery Act, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), Higher Education Act (HEA), and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
- Able to credibly represent the university police department in an official capacity.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Previous experience complying with the requirements of the Clery Act; Advance Clery Act training is highly desirable.
- Previous experience with state/federal regulatory compliance efforts.
- Previous experience working with Title IX guidelines is highly desirable.
- Three (3) years or more of work experience with an institution of Higher Education.
- Knowledge of California codes (Penal, Vehicle, Government, Education, etc.).
- Knowledge of the various University Departments and their functions within the University and University Policies and Procedures.
- Prior work experience in a law enforcement environment is highly desirable.
- Knowledgeable of the application of UC Berkeley Police Department and the University of California/ University-wide Administrative Policies and Police Procedures policies, procedures and practices, University policies and procedures, and Labor/Bargaining Union contracts is highly desirable.
