The Department of Classical Studies at Tufts University seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment at the level of assistant professor in the Environmental History of Antiquity (3000 BC - 800 CE) across Western Eurasia and North Africa. This appointment calls for interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and teaching that bridges Classical and Environmental Studies. The successful candidate could teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses (two courses per semester during the academic year) in a combination of the following areas: Latin and Greek, Classical/Old World Archaeology, and Ancient History, suited to the faculty member’s interests and expertise, as well as one required course each year in the Environmental Studies Program.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications: PhD or enrolled in PhD equivalent international degree-granting program in Classics or a related discipline (Ancient History, Archaeology, etc.) at the time of application. It is assumed that applicants will demonstrate evidence of the capacity to conduct research and teaching in environmental studies in their research and training.
Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. with all basic qualifications outlined above by date of hire.
