German Studies Lecturer – Fort Carson

THE GERMAN STUDIES DEPARTMENT at the UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS
seeks applicants to provide language instruction for active duty military personnel within the KU Language Training Center program. Applicants will be expected to teach a series of 4-week intensive courses to be held at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is a full-time, year-round position and assumes the applicant is available to relocate. The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
100% – Depending on the need, teach undergraduate courses in designated area:
Prepare for and attend all class meetings.
Provide instruction throughout the semester under the guidance of the language program coordinator.
Develop assignments and lesson plans, grade assignments in a timely manner, provide students with feedback and regular information about their progress in the course, and give students clear information about how to improve their performance in the course.
Maintain standards of excellence in teaching and in the evaluation of student performance.
Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:
Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in German
Teaching experience of German at intermediate to advanced level
Native or near native proficiency in English and German.
Knowledge of current pedagogical practices, especially for adult learners
Experience in curricular design and materials development
