The English Department at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Game Design to begin Fall 2022.
The successful candidate will teach game design and theory and narrative design to excited undergraduate students within our multidisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Game Studies and Design degree plan. Other duties include directing and strengthening the degree program; creating a student organization to promote and centralize out-of-class co-curricular activities; chairing the college’s game faculty committee, and advising students pursuing the B.S. degree or the Game Studies and Design Certificate, housed in the English Department. As a humanistic program within a technological university, we are looking for candidates with an active practice of creating games within a liberal arts program. In addition to Game Studies, relevant teaching fields include but are not limited to Media Studies, Communication Studies, Critical Cultural Studies. The successful candidate will have access to laboratory/studio space and will join with other colleagues in defining the next phase of our multidisciplinary program, which includes students preparing for careers in the game industry as well as those pursuing cultural approaches to games as a media form.
Teaching Load is 3-3. Rank is Senior Lecturer so a successful candidate will have both experience teaching in a university environment and professional experience in the industry. A competitive benefits package is included and opportunities for additional compensation are available.
