Job Summary/Basic Function:
Lake Superior State University seeks applicants for a one-year renewable term English Instructor position which will begin August 2018. The incumbent will teach composition courses, with a focus on First-Year Composition I, First-Year Composition I with co-requisite Writing Workshop, and First-Year Composition II. In addition, responsibilities include holding regular office hours, participation in program and assessment activities, and engagement in student recruitment and retention activities.
Master’s degree in English or Master’s degree in a related field with graduate coursework in composition pedagogy, from a regionally accredited institution.
Evidence of experience in providing effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Student-centered teaching philosophy.
Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition or a related field with graduate coursework in composition pedagogy, from a regionally accredited institution.
Two or more years teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Experience teaching developmental composition, especially with embedded remediation and/or directed self-placement delivery formats.
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach from multiple formats including online, blended, and face-to-face.
Typical demands of teaching at the university level exist, with the ability to stand for up to 3 hours in a single class session, and the ability to manage the physical demands of at least 12 credits per semester.
