|
|
1.) Assistant Professors -- Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the successful candidates will teach courses in the Department’s Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Linguistics program, as well as first-year writing.
These faculty members will provide the Department with leadership in the area of community-based learning and writing across the curriculum (WAC) and the ideal candidates will have experience and education in both areas.
These faculty members will assist the Department in developing stronger ties to departments and programs across the Georgia Southern campus, as well as to local community groups and organizations through internships, grants and service projects.
The typical teaching load for tenured and tenure-track faculty is seven, three-hour courses per year (4/3 or 3/4 load).
These positions are 9-month appointments and salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) suited to one of the Department’s four concentrations (Linguistics, Creative Writing, Professional and Technical Writing, Writing Studies) by August 1, 2010
• Experience with community-based learning, writing across the curriculum and teaching with technology
• Evidence of scholarly potential and excellence in teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
• Two to four years of college teaching experience
• Evidence of publications or presentations at professional conferences
• Experience working with diverse student populations
2.) Lecturer -- Position Description: Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the successful candidate will teach courses in the Department’s Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Linguistics program, as well as first-year writing.
This faculty member will be engaged in either critical or creative scholarship in digital/visual rhetoric or multimedia/multigenre writing and will be interested in the development of online courses.
This faculty member will help the Department develop stronger partnerships with other departments and programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
The typical teaching load for non-tenure-track lecturer faculty is 12 to 15 credit hours per semester (four or five three-hour courses).
Departmental service is expected and will vary according to the teaching load.
Research and professional development are encouraged.
Collegiality is essential.
The position is a 9-month appointment and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
