  • FLAD/Saab Visiting Professor (Open Rank) - Portuguese Studies

    The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) in Lisbon, Portugal, and the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies in the University of Massachusetts Lowell College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences announce the FLAD/Saab Visiting Professorship in Portuguese Studies for Spring Semester 2025. This program is a three-year collaboration that sponsors a one-semester a year, open-rank, Visiting Professor of Portuguese Studies at UMass Lowell. The program is open to Portuguese Academics presently teaching at a university in Portugal or abroad.


    The program contributes a Portuguese academic perspective to the curriculum of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and, more specifically, supports the Portuguese Studies Program at UMass Lowell and the mission of the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies. The program further enhances the University's relationship with the regional Portuguese-American community.


    For the third year of the program (Spring Semester 2025), we seek a Visiting professor in the academic areas of History, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology or Economics. The Visiting Professor will teach up to two courses in English and deliver one or more public lectures in their area of expertise. The program provides for a competitive one-semester salary stipend.


    The University of Massachusetts Lowell is grateful to the Luso-American Development Foundation and Elisia and Mark Saab and family for co-sponsoring the FLAD/Saab Visiting Professor in Portuguese Studies Program.


    Minimum Qualifications (Required):



    • Ph.D. in hand in History, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology or Economics
