    COMMUNICATION and RHETORICAL STUDIES, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY, ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR (Non-Tenure-Track),

    SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY The Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, College of Visual and Performing Arts, at Syracuse University invites applications for a three-year renewable, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin August 2024. Syracuse University has a three-step ladder for promotion for teaching professors. We seek candidates who are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and interested in a long-term commitment to the position.

    This person will serve as a basic course director with a focus on undergraduate curriculum, particularly Public Advocacy (CRS 225) and Presentational Speaking (CRS 325), as well as required undergraduate classes, including large lecture classes. Duties include creating course content, supervision, training of graduate teaching assistants to lead recitation sections, and overseeing our annual undergraduate presentational speaking competition (White-Denison).

    Successful candidates may be able to teach other courses in one or more areas of department need, to add to the department's current strengths in rhetoric, communication, language and social interaction, visual culture, performance studies, and media studies.

    We seek candidates who recognize the importance of a vital public culture and are firmly grounded in the discipline of communication and rhetoric. PhD preferred, in Communication or related field. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and service. Applicants should also share the department's central commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, exemplified by its partnerships with the Lender Center for Social Justice, Department of Women's and Gender Studies, the LGBTQ Studies minor, La Casita Cultural Center, and more.
