The English Department at Old Dominion University invites applications for a Lecturer of General Education Composition. This 10-month renewable appointment begins on July 25, 2024 and includes opportunities for summer teaching. The search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who can provide evidence of inclusive teaching practices in course design, assignments, and classroom management.

Lecturers primarily teach 100-level genre-based composition courses and WAC/WID 200-level composition courses, but may also have opportunity to teach courses in their area of expertise, dependent upon programmatic needs. The position carries a 4/4 teaching load and service to two departmental committees.
 
Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Applicants must have expertise and/or experience teaching English composition.
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
 
  • Applicants must have completed all M.A. or M.F.A. requirements in English or related field by July 24, 2023.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. level graduate work or degree in Rhetoric, Composition, or Writing Studies.
  • Expertise in and ability/willingness to contribute to professional development in one or more of the following areas:
      • LGBTQIA+, LatinX, African American, Native American, and/or Asian American writing and cultural rhetorics.
      • WAC/WID, directed self-placement, and/or co-requisite/ALP models of composition.
      • UDL, accessibility, and/or disability studies.
      • multiliteracy expertise, such as digital, AI, social–emotional learning, and information literacies.
  • Record of successful and innovative teaching.
